ABSTRACT
Background: Exclusive breast milk (ASI) is the best nutrition for infants aged 0–6 months because it contains nutrients and antibodies that support growth and development and strengthen the baby's immune system. However, exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Palangka Raya City remains low, at 42.73% in 2023, far below the national target of 80%. One factor contributing to the low exclusive breastfeeding rate is a lack of knowledge and support from husbands regarding the breastfeeding process.
Research Objective: This study aims to determine the level of husbands' knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding at the Panarung Community Health Center in Palangka Raya City. Furthermore, this study also aims to provide an overview of the importance of the husband's role and support in the success of exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0–6 months.
Research Method: This research is a quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 63 husbands with infants aged 0–6 months at the Panarung Community Health Center, and 39 respondents were selected as samples using an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through a closed questionnaire and analyzed univariately using a frequency distribution.
Research Results: Most husbands had a low level of knowledge, as many as 26 respondents (66.7%), sufficient as many as 8 respondents (20.5%), and good as many as 5 respondents (12.8%).
Conclusion: Husbands' knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding at the Panarung Community Health Center is relatively low. Increased education and counseling for husbands is needed to support their wives in providing exclusive breastfeeding and increase breastfeeding coverage in the community.
